BIJAPUR: Supplying drinking water through tankers does not make news in the district because it has been a regular feature in hundreds of villages during the summer. Bijjaragi, a village with a population of around 7,000, was one such village. Drinking water used to be supplied through tankers. The picture has Now changed, according to grama panchayat president, Ram Bandiwaddar. Speaking to the visiting press team on Saturday, he said people in The Village Now get water supply daily. Sumps and overhead tanks with a total capacity of 2.16 lakh litres have been built and pipes for public and private users provided, he added. He said three bore wells had been drilled for the supply of drinking water to people in The Village. He said that 40per cent of drinking water needs were met through installations built under Jala Nirmal scheme while 60 per cent was supplied through ZP efforts. District support unit officials of Jala Nirmal Yojana said drinking water was supplied at 50 litre per capita while they used to get about 10-20 litres per day when water was supplied through tankers.
