RSS Article published Sunday, January 22, 2006 Toledo man’s homicide is county’s 1st of year The death of a man who Was taken to Medical University of Ohio Medical Center early Friday morning for treatment of a gunshot wound Was ruled a homicide yesterday by Dr. James Patrick, Lucas County coroner.John Reece, Jr., 29, Was pronounced dead at 8 a.m., about seven hours after he arrived at the hospital. His death Was Lucas County’s first homicide of 2006, Dr. Patrick said.Reece, whose address Was listed by the coroner’s office as 871 Colburn St. and who also had 2257 Dorr St. listed as a recent address, died from extensive internal bleeding after being shot in the back, the coroner said.A large-caliber bullet, likely a 38-caliber or larger, Was recovered from the body. The bullet struck One of Reece’s main abdominal veins, Dr. Patrick said.Reece and an unknown man were reported shot at a house at 8825 Old Airport Hwy. in Springfield Township. The other person reportedly shot has not been identified, authorities said.Dr. Patrick said authorities have been given information that the shooting may have occurred during a robbery.County sheriff’s detectives were not available for comment yesterday.
