The Socialist Party (PSOE) is suffering a loss of popular support largely due to the political crisis over the Catalan statute of autonomy. If general elections were held today, the People's Party (PP) would defeat the PSOE 40.4%-39.3%, and the one-point difference between the two parties would result in a ten-seat advantage for the PP in the Congress of Deputies, according to a survey conducted by the daily newspaper ABC. The survey showed the upward trend of the PP reflected in other surveys during recent months.
