McDowell, a model-turned-actress whose film career had gotten off to a bumpy start when her Dixie twang had to be dubbed over by Glenn Close for 1984's "Greystoke: "The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes," had been rediscovered with "sex, lies and videotape" and "Groundhog Day." "Four Weddings" only kept the momentum going forward.
