(CBS) CHICAGO "Step forward, back, out."Andrew Heytow loves to fly high. But Now, he's taking things One step at a time, CBS 2’s Jim Mullen reports.Last August, his life literally spun out of control."I Was involved in a helicopter crash," Heytow said. “I had internal organ damage, broken back, broken leg, and I had head injury."But Andrew's getting back on his feet now.He credits an intense combination therapy, called day rehabilitation.“Patients come three to five days a week and they receive physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy,” said Patty Hanson of the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.In day rehab, One problem can be helped in a number of ways."For example, if a patient is working on their memory, we can address their memory in physical therapy as well as in speech therapy,” Hanson said. "So it's a very aggressive and very comprehensive program."And no two rehab plans are alike."We like to know what each individual patient's goals are because it varies significantly from patient to patient,” Hanson said. In his therapy, Heytow uses computers to help regain his memory and cognitive skills, as well as his hand-eye coordination.He also does balance exercises.
