Toyota leaving Indy Racing League a year early - Terre Haute Tribune Star
Special to the Tribune-Star/IndianapolisAll cars in the IndyCar Series will go with Honda Power in 2006.That was the word given by Indy Racing League and Honda Performance Development officials Thursday.HPD, a subsidiary of American Honda Motor Co., will field Honda Racing Indy V-8 engines solely for the Indy Racing League series. This year, cars were powered by Honda, Chevrolet and Toyota engines.Toyota, which has not been as competitive as Honda the past two years, originally planned to withdraw from the IRL after the 2006 season. Chevrolet left after this season, and the elite Penske Racing team announced last month it would switch from Toyota to Honda, which has committed to remaining at least through 2009. ADVERTISEMENT-->
