Toyota to run cars in NASCAR's Nextel Cup series - San Diego Union Tribune

Toyota moved to open-wheel racing in 1996, providing engines for teams in the CART series through 2002 when it jumped to the Indy Racing League. Toyota won 17 races in the IRL, including the Indy 500 with Gil de Ferran in 2003. Toyota Was contracted to supply engines to the IRL through the 2007 season, but withdrew after the end of last season to concentrate on its NASCAR programs.
