"); //--> [24/01/06 - 11:01] 2006 IndyCar field coming together Scheckter poised to join Vision Racing Paul Dana joins Rahal With just over two months remaining in the off season, the IndyCar Series line-up for 2006 is starting to materialize. Drivers Paul Dana and Kosuke Matsuura both saw their positions confirmed on the eve of Tuesday's first open test of the season. Both announcements were somewhat anticipated, but Now that they are official, the total number of confirmed car and driver combinations has moved to fifteen. This is well short of the 28-30 maximum race starters prescribed in the IRL rule book, though it is most of the way to the 18 car minimum expected by series and track officials. Dana is moving his Ethanol sponsorship to the Rahal Letterman team, while Matsuura will return for a third season with Super Aguri Fernandez Racing. Both drivers will utilize Panoz Honda combinations, though their respective teams are expected to be the only Panoz teams on the 2006 grid. Hemelgarn Racing, Dana's former team, continues to seek sponsors to replace the Ethanol funding and may still make the grid when the season opens at Homestead.
