Qaiser Mohammad Ali, Ahmedabad : Now that the India-Sri Lanka Test match is over, Ahmedabad is getting ready for its annual kite Flying festival next month. Preparations have already begun for the annual festival held on the occasion of Makar Sankranti Jan 14. A salient feature of this festival, which is enjoyed by people of all ages, is that lots of kite makers come to Ahmedabad all the way from Uttar Pradesh. They come from cities like Moradabad, Kanpur, Jhansi and Lucknow, which are known for their expertise in kite making and the thread used for Flying them. A senior resident of Ahmedabad said some of these people reach the city as early as six months before the festival."They Rent rooms in Ahmedabad and live here for up to six months, making Kites and manjha (special thread). They also bring with them workers and the material used for making Kites and the thread," he said."At times they also bring their families with them and live in the Kalupur area of the city."
