The New Mexico State Legislature kicked off its 2006 session last week faced with tasks ranging from reworking Medicaid guidelines to lowering taxes.But there's also plenty for people interested in Food issues to watch on the lawmakers' (ahem) plates.Many of the food-related bills the Legislature will chew over this session were in front of them last year as well -- a proposed Nutrition Council, a statewide ban on the Food additive aspartame and money for a variety of nutrition programs.But others -- like money for the new permanent site for the Santa Fe Farmer's Market -- are brand-new.Here's a brief rundown of some of the food-related bills before the Legislature during this year's shorter, 30-day session.
