From April, potable alcohol, both country-liquor and India Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) will cost more.The state government has decided to hike the excise duty from the next fiscal 2006-07. Beer, however, has been exempted from the hike.License fee and renewal fee for existing liquor vends is proposed to be hiked by at least 15 per cent. The proposal is before the cabinet and is likely to be approved by the first week of February.The hike in excise duty on Common IMFL brands would be Rs 6 per bottle, while on all premium brands including scotch, the hike is proposed to be Rs 16 per bottle.The hike in excise duty on country liquor is to be increased by Rs 6 per litre.The target of revenue from excise is likely to be fixed at Rs 3,600 crore for 2006-07, against the current fiscal target of Rs 3,200 crore.Revenue collected till December 2005 Was Rs 2,082 crore and the shortfall is expected to be completed in remaining over two - More available
