K1.5mil investment to revive coffee mill By ZACHERY PER ROBUSTA coffee growers in Maprik, East Sepik province, have some reason to smile after K1.5 million Was invested in a central coffee processing factory. Works Minister and Maprik MP Gabriel Kapris secured the money through the National Government to establish a new coffee processing factory in Maprik. Coffee Industry Corporation (CIC) chief executive officer Ricky Mitio applauded Mr Kapris and the Government for the investment to revive the abandoned Robusta coffee. He said it Was in consistent with the Government’s policy to raise the economic growth to 5% annually. “It is a timely New Year present for the Robusta coffee growers in Maprik to have a K1.5 million investment for a central coffee processing mill,” Mr Mitio said. He said last year, CIC conducted a survey at Mr Kapris’ request to map out a Strategy to revive Robusta coffee in Maprik, after it Was abandoned during vanilla boom in East Sepik province. Mr Mitio thanked Mr Kapris for responding promptly. “This is part of the CIC’s Pilot Central Processing Mill policy to bring market Closer to the growers,” he said.
