SBA says counties are disaster areas The Small Business Administration last week declared 14 central Iowa counties disaster areas.The declaration from SBA administrator Hector Barreto includes Adair, Boone, Dallas, Franklin, Greene, Guthrie, Hamilton, Hardin, Madison, Polk, Story, Warren, Webster and Wright.The declaration came in response to a request from Gov. Tom Vilsack in the wake of Nov. 12 storms that brought high winds, hail and tornadoes.The towns of Woodward and Stratford were hit hardest.The SBA declaration makes loans of up to $200,000 available to homeowners to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate, said Joseph Folsom, SBA's Iowa district director."Businesses of any size and private nonprofit organizations May borrow up to $1.5 million to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate, machinery and equipment, inventory and other Business assets," Folsom said in a statement.Information and loan applications May be obtained by calling the SBA's disaster service center at (800) 659-2955.Chinese association runs poster contest The Chinese Association of Iowa will have a Chinese New Year, Year of the Dog poster design contest.The Chinese New Year begins Jan. 29. • Boxer - Last but not least, the Boxer. These high energy dogs need to express themselves. Make sure you have a big yard.
