Making a refreshing change from the numerous campaigns warning consumers of the dangers of internet shopping, payment infrastructure provider Trintech Group has launched a campaign to raise awareness of the potential risks retailers face when processing online payments. With some £4 billion worth of card payment transactions taking place over the internet in the 2005 Christmas shopping season, and internet-based card crime already amounting to some £58 million on UK-issued cards over a six month period, Trintech warns that the figures could rise unless retailers step up the Security of online shopping environments. Raja Ray, Trintech's director of product marketing, said: "Although many retailers are aware of new internet payment protection systems (such as our PayWare Merchant MPI) many have not yet implemented them." The company's own research shows that some merchants are also still unaware of recent improvements in Technology for securing on-line card payments. According to Ray, internet card fraud rose by 5% after Chip-and-PIN Security Was implemented throughout the UK. TELL AFRIEND
