BLUEFIELD, Va. — A pair of Tazewell County Kids — one who has devoted his professional career to serving troubled youth, and the other, one of the hardest throwing relief pitchers in Major League Baseball — have joined forces to help young men get a second chance in life.Billy Wagner and Eric Robinson were college roommates at Ferrum College, but they maintained their friendship even after following different career paths. Most sports fans know the story about Wagner, 34, the Tazewell High School graduate who throws 100 mile-per-hour fastballs and is considered to be one of the top relief pitchers in professional baseball. Wagner recently signed a four-year multi-million dollar contract to play for the New York Mets.Robinson, a two-sport athlete at Graham High School who played defensive end on the 1989 G-Men state champion football team, went to Roanoke Memorial Hospital to complete his residency in industrial psychology.“I had already Made my career plans, but I started doing some mentoring,” Robinson, 33, said. “I found out that I just loved Kids and I’ve been working with troubled youth ever since.”Robinson worked in several social work settings after receiving his degree in 1994, including mentoring, parenting classes, trans-parenting, detention outreach - More available
