PINE BLUFF — Testimony began Monday in the capital murder trial of Bernard Marks, 24, accused of beating 48-year-old Michael Walker until he Was nearly unconscious and then Running over him twice with an Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme on the morning of July 5, 2004. A witness told the jury of nine women and three men that he watched while Marks, whose street name is “Pig,” beat Walker, whose street name Was “Old School,” but then urged Marks not to run over Walker, who lay moaning in the road near West Fifth Avenue and Peach Street. “Who ran over Old School?” Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Rik Ramsey of the 11th Judicial District West asked the witness, Ricky Howard. “Pig,” Howard replied. Howard testified that he had borrowed the Oldsmobile from a friend to go to Three Gables, a popular Pine Bluff Club, to celebrate the Fourth of July with his girlfriend. Afterward, Howard drove to a friend’s house on West Fifth Avenue with his girlfriend and a few others, including Marks. Testimony presented Monday did not reveal a motive for the slaying.
